Deciding to end a marriage is a big decision, but sometimes, it’s necessary. If you were to discover that your spouse had betrayed you in the worst way possible, would you file for divorce? For many people, finding out that their partner has done something horrendous, like cheating on them, would spell the end of the relationship. That was the case for one woman.
The woman, known as Big-Celery8514 on Reddit, took to the popular subreddit r/AITAH to share her story. We have all the details right here.
Her Story
She wrote, “My (F35) husband (M36) and I have been together for 10 years, nearly 11. And we have two kids 2 and four years of age.”
She went on to explain that she and her husband always had a good relationship. They were communicative and always loving toward each other. “He was always loyal, not even watching p*** out of respect for me, without me even asking! We shared each other’s passcodes, he is just a great husband,” she wrote.
But suddenly, the story changed. “However, my husband works a lot more since getting a new job, and he has been stressed lately. I try to help him, but there’s not much I can do. I thought he would be okay, but a week ago, he didn’t come home on time.”
He Cheated
“When he did [it] was late, and he went straight to bed. That morning, he was unusually quiet, unlike our usual chattiness every morning because neither of us work mornings. So, I thought he had a bad day and asked him what was wrong. Immediately, he admitted to a one-night stand. Like it was quick I was just surprised at first.”
Apparently, her husband had gone out with a few of his male coworkers, and he had a few drinks to relax after work. According to her husband, his coworkers encouraged him to cheat with a woman who joined their get-together. “He said it was a moment of weakness, and he wasn’t thinking of the consequences until afterward.”
“He admitted he had no excuses. He said he felt guilty because he never thought he would do something like this. He said he had to tell me so he could fix what he did. He promised to get therapy and do whatever it took to make things right, even letting me look through his phone.”
She Told Him To Leave
However, she told her husband to leave, stating she didn’t want to speak to him. “I was heartbroken, disappointed, and cried all night. I don’t know what to do. I want to divorce because I have a zero-tolerance policy for cheating. He knows this! But we’ve been together for almost 11 years. He’s never done anything like this before, and I love him dearly. However, how could I ever let him even touch me again?”
Needing advice, the woman decided to speak to her mother, but to her surprise, her mother said that she was in the wrong for wanting to get a divorce. “She said it could have been an affair, and he could have not said anything, but he did, and I should try to forgive. She said if I did love him, I wouldn’t just leave him without trying. But I just don’t know.”
The Comments
Her post quickly blew up, catching the attention of thousands of other Reddit users who flocked to the comments to side with the woman. JustMMlurkingMM commented, “He cheated. He chose to cheat. He “only did it this one time” – as far as you know. Alcohol isn’t an excuse.”
SwimmingProgram6530 said, “This isn’t about what your husband thinks or even your Mom. What he did was unforgivable and you need to do what’s best for your peace of mind. Not sure what his coworkers would have made of his behavior either and the complete embarrassment for you knowing that he thought so little that he would carry on like this in front of them. I’m not sure how anybody can get past that.”
